on mother's day...

graduation
graduation
graduation
graduation
graduation

I graduated from Marymount University with a Bachelor's in History.

Surrounded by family (mine and Boyfriend's) and with a smile so big it nearly split my face in two, I walked across the stage at the D.A.R. Constitution Hall and collected my diploma. Four years after beginning college as a purple-haired sociology major, I'm finished and ready for the next chapter in my life.

Hoorah!

May Day
May Day
ph. Boyfriend, thanks love.

I really like the look of the blouse under the dress. It looks very spring to me! I'll be incorporating this into my work outfits (we're not allowed to wear tank tops). I wore this to my good friend Katie's May Day Fiesta. We ate dinner at Ikea and then enjoyed daquiris and mudslides at her house. It was a ton of fun wandering around and playing in the different "houses". I really love nesting! This was over a week ago! Yikes. I'm so behind uploading photos and updating my blog. Sorry guys.

I started my new job and it's going really well! I love talking to people and it's fun being in an office that's so busy! Boyfriend graduated on Sunday! I'm so proud of him. He was so handsome. We're both living on campus this summer so we moved from one dorm to another this weekend as well. His family was in town so we also went out to a delicious Vietnamese restaurant. It was a really busy weekend but so much fun! I have tomorrow off so I'll be posting a lot more tomorrow.

Thanks for sticking with me, loves! I really miss blogging regularly.

I have one portfolio to complete, two homework assignments,
and one final between me and freedom.

Almost all of my friends are done with their finals.
Almost all of my friends are graduating.
I have no motivation to finish these assignments.
I just want to lie in the sun.
I want to go to Richmond and walk up and down Cary Street.
I want summer.

a better day

Today is a good day.
I finished my paper at 4:30 this morning
and got to sleep until 2:30 this afternoon.
I got an A on my Suffragette paper (holla)!

I was hired to be a Student Ambassador for my university,
good pay AND room and board. (double holla).

My homework is getting done.
This Saturday we're going to a yard sale
(and some thrift stores if I can convince the boyf.)

Wednesday, April 21

When life gets stressful I forget the little things. I forget to call my parents. I forget to do laundry. I forget to text friends back. I forget to tell Boyfriend I love him. I forget the important, little things that I should never forget. Right now I am stressed. I have a 15 page paper due tomorrow and I am so lost and confused about it. I am cranky because I am tired, dehydrated, and my uterus hurts. Dammit. I want to be selfish and mean and demand that Boyfriend bring me treats and kiss me all the time.

Except, Boyfriend is stressed too. He has to finish everything and find an internship and figure out a place to live this next year because he is graduating. His stress is so much bigger than my stress. If I was a better person I would be able to set my stress aside and help him carry his burdens. I'm trying, but I'm not that good. Instead I am--we are, hunkering down (cranky, snappish, and mean) and getting. shit. done.

Next Friday, we will be done.
Next Friday, there will be time to snuggle in bed and watch a movie.
Next Friday, there will be time to lie out in the sun on my tie-dye blanket.
Next Friday, there will be time to love each other.
Next Friday, there will be time.
I'm living for next Friday.

All photos are from last summer, when we had time.

secret agent [wo]man

(trench from Paris 5 yrs ago; skirt, belt, sweater, and boots are thrifted;
seed pearl necklace is from my mama; tights and beater are unknown)

This Spring has been very confusing in the D.C. area. One day it's 80*, the next it's 60*. I dug this coat out of the back of my closet and brought it back to school with me to get me through these last chilly days. I bought the trench in Paris (I'm not sure at what store though) my sophomore year in high school, so five years ago. It's been worn once, so it's basically like new. I'm glad it's finally getting the attention it deserves.
This outfit is basically my casual librarian look (or sexy librarian if you're Boyfriend; he fell for me because I was a bookseller at B&N. haha). I love this skirt but it's only the second time I've worn it. I want to give it some more use before I pack it away for the summer. I tried to make it a little more casual than the last time so I just through a tank on and my casual boots. I think I'm going to stud the top of these boots this summer.
I have so many clothing reconstruction projects planned for this summer! Only one 15 page paper, one portfolio, and three finals between me and freedom.

eight books on suffragists for an eight page paper.

Wednesday, March 24

hey there blogger friends...

It's me, Sarah Yvonne, your top hat wearing, clothes loving, blogger! I'm here to ask you a favor. The favor isn't for me, it's for my friend Korey and classmate Tory (hi Tory) who are in a Group Dynamics class. They were assigned a project which involved making a youtube video (awesome right?). A bunch of us got together to do a chatroulette dance party! Woohoo. The video needs 2500 hits by the middle of April so if you could please CLICK HERE and watch it that would be great. If you are amused, or moved to dance, please feel free to pass it onto your friends.

Not only are Boyfriend and I in the video dancing like loons (which is rare--for Boyfriend anyway), you'll also see Alice, the Mad Hatter, a zombie, a stormtrooper, a Stranger, and quite a few other characters.

Lots of thanks from all of us!

happy birthday to me [part 2]

I seem to be having extraordinary luck on other people's birthdays this year!
Last night, I recieved an email informing me that my application to study abroad has been accepted!! Next fall, I will be studying in London
(from August to December).

p.s. I have an outfit post for tomorrow ;)

Next week is spring break.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I will survive this week to enjoy the next.
If you have any spare good vibes could you send them my way?

uninspired

No not the outfit.

(thrifted dress, thrifted belt, H&M tank, random leggings,
hand-me-down boots, etsy necklace)

I really loved this outfit and I really love this necklace. If anyone knows the etsy shop please alert me because I'd love to link to them here! I wore another skirt with tulle under my dress to give it an extra poof! I felt very feminine and very housewife all day.

I am uninspired because I have a short story due today at 9:30 a.m. I start my story last week and was on a roll. Then I had to go to class, then we have a TON OF SNOW, then I went to Richmond and now I am a different person. I feel like there will be a huge shift in voice if I write right now. Also, I'm completely uninspired. I know where I want the story to go I just have no idea how to take it there.

Gah. I have a bottle of mountain dew; wish me luck.

i want to go to English!

blouse: thrifted
belt: thrifted
skirt: thrifted
necklace: thrifted
glasses: hot topic
leggings: forever 21
leg warmers: gift
rainboots: urban o.

This skirt was an impromptu buy at Goodwill (somewhere). I bought it thinking I would hem it up but recently I've become more attracted to longer skirts. So now I have NO CLUE what to do with it. I like it long but it's a little big. I don't want to chop it yet so it may just stay in my closet awhile. For some reason it made me nervous to wear.

First, ignore my bangs. It had started to snow (hard) and my hair was soaked. Second, meet my lucky elephant necklace. I thrifted this necklace on one of my first thrifting adventures and it is one of my favorite things. I have worn it to several exams and my most recent job interview. Elephants are considered lucky in many cultures and are also known for their intelligence and perseverance. I thought about getting an elephant tattoo, but I've moved past that now; I just need my lucky elephant!!

P.S. Classes are canceled tomorrow which is awesome but sad because I really want to go to my creative writing class! Nerd. Yes, I know.

Update: Photos are small because flickr hates me. Anyone want to gift me a premium account??

a very simple outfit

(sweater & dress: thrifted, boots & tank: hand-me-downs; socks: target)

A very simple outfit for a very simple day!
I love this sweater because of the awesome print, oh and it's cashmere so it's super cozy! This dress is so simple. I am tempted to see how many outfits I can make out of it, a la The Clothes Horse.

Tomorrow is the first day of workshoping for the Creative Writing course I'm taking. I just began writing again over the summer and this is the first time I've ever had to write a poem on command. I'm really nervous but excited at the same time! Boyfriend is the only one who has ever read my stuff (except what I've posted on here) and the idea of getting feedback is thrilling (and terrifying). I just hope I don't freak out too much!

wednesday's child is full of woe

I am a Wednesday child but I am full of glee; how can I not be with a mustache ring?

I thought by now I would have been to all my courses but my professor didn't show up for class this morning. Apparently she thought class started at 12 instead of 11. Oh well. I know I'm going to enjoy Creative Writing, Honors History: Slavery in the Atlantic, and History of the Gilded Age. I will just have to survive Math and Lifetime Fitness, both class are mandatory.

I'm still figuring out what I want to do with this blog but I've mostly decided to do whatever I want for the day! For awhile I was trying to limit myself to one post a day but I've decided that I want more freedom. Here's to un-stifled, random, happy creativity! Oh, there will still be lots of daily outfits--I thought of getting rid of them but it just makes me happy to dress up & share.

A bunch of us are going to see Avatar tonight. I've been told it will excite my already excited hippie-tendencies and that I will want to live in a tree. That is ok with me.

line by line

(shirt & headband: forever 21; skirt: h&m; belt: thrifted; tights: urban o.; shoes: payless)

Just another day of me making horrible faces. Ugh, the quality of photos has gone down because I haven't been using Frank & I've been taking sneaky photos with the flash off. I need to find more hidden locations. This photo was taken in a study room in my library; there was a strange dude studying as I took this photo.
As of now I've been up for 25 hours but I've FINISHED all my papers for this semester; on time I might add :D. All I will be doing this weekend is creating study guides and sleeping. Oh how I long to sleep. Luckily I seem to have caught my second wind in time for my last class of the day.
I love this shirt & skirt. I felt a little Parisian today; in the most obvious, stereotypical way. Unfortunately it poured all day, it seems to do that whenever I wear this skirt.
Time for class && then I'm off to bed to sleep for a million hours, or at least till tomorrow!

Wednesday, December 2

a list of excuses as to why i'm not blogging

1. It's the week before finals so I'm doing papers
2. My computer has gone wonky so I'm using library computers

Short list. I hope to be back soon because trust me, I'd rather be blogging than writing papers. Even though I love a good research paper.

90s Dance Party

There were costumes, mustaches, and awesome people.

The party was a success!

Tuesday, September 8

this weekend ...

we successfully celebrated Spencer's 22nd birthday;

went to a delicious BBQ restaurant;

saw cool things on the way there and back;

watched The Godfather and start our own mafia (this is our emblem);

decorated ourselves in sharpie ink;

and went thrifting (post on that to come).

All in all, a wonderful weekend.
