Nummioq

Saturday night, I had some friends over for my first "dinner party" in the apartment. It went well despite a burnt pot of rice (I really hate cooking rice on the stove). Following, we rushed into the city for the DC Film Festival. We had the privilege of watching the first movie to ever be produced in Greenland, Nummioq. The movie was fantastic. The story was touching and the actors (most of them starring in their first film) were emotive and believable. The Greenlandic scenery was beautiful. The director was there for a Q&A after the film and it was fun to hear him speak.

Also, apparently Greenland is filled with tremendously attractive men who can do things like catch fish with just their hands. Road trip?

I spent Saturday night drinkin' a 40oz and editing some of my favorite photos. I turned these five black and white just to see how they'd hold up. I have to say I like them. The fourth is my favorite but I think the first and third are the strongest technically. The fifth is my favorite photo I've ever taken and while it's has strong contrast I really miss the colours.

What do you think?

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have the time to head down to DC and take in the blossoms. A friend and I walked around the tidal basin and shot the beautiful blossoms. One of the good things about hanging out with other photogs is they understand the need to pause and take the same photo over and over--anything for the shot!

It was SO cold, even though it looks like spring. My hands were numb! It was worth it for the photos and the fun afternoon! These are my favorite photos but I may upload some more later.

downtown

My photography adventure took me to the National Mall. I spent a few hours walking back and forth between the Washington Monument and the Capital taking photos of the wonderful snow.

I love the light through the trees and the odd reflection in this instillation at the mini-sculpture garden.

I was there for long enough to see the sunset, which was beautiful! I love a good sunset.

in like a lion

The spring that was here has left us.
It is cold and rainy and gray out.
But! Instead of letting it get me down I'm heading into D.C. tomorrow (the one sunny day this week) to walk around and take photos with una amiga! Que bien.

dance of the sugarplums

(coat: gift; everything else: thrifted; this outfit wwas under $13!!!)

Excuse the funny faces I'm making, the sun was in my eyes everywhere I looked. Let me start by saying: I love this coat. Oh, and the lace on this shirt makes me giddy with glee. Did you check out my high-waist pants? They are so super snazzy. The only thing I'm less than zomgsquee about are these boots because they are not super comfortable. I did love being almost as tall as Boyfriend; key word almost, he's a giant :). I wore this get-up to the Kennedy Center to see The Nutcracker with Boyfriend yesterday. I see the ballet every year at the beginning of the Christmas season. It really kicks off my festive spirit! I had the best time ever with Boyfriend; even if it was one of my least favorite performances of The Nutcracker. When you've seen it as many times as I have you are bound to be picky.

I've reached my limit on bandwidth for flickr (gah. I may have to upload to premium.) so these photos are smaller:

We matched! Unintentionally. :D

I love the view; both outside and in!

Since my initial foray into the fashion blogging world I have been saddened by the lack of D.C. fashion blogs. There were blogs that talked about fashion in general or how unfashionable D.C. is, but no one was writing about their personal fashion.

It seems my wait is over. I would like to introduce you to the lovely E (from what I can tell this is what she goes by online) of District of Chic. Go check her out and say hello!

P.S. I'm trying to cut back to one post a day, at least during hell weeks, but I had to post about this immediately!

My Trip to the White House

This morning I went on a field trip to the White House with my Women in American History class. It's so exciting. Just walking across the lawn was exhilarating; all I could think about was how many important and influential people have walked where I was walking. Unfortunately, cameras (and a million other things) were banned from the White House so the only photos I have are cell phone photos after we finished the "tour".

This is the door we exited from.

The tour was self-guided and we only were allowed to walk through the East Room, Green Room, Blue Room, Red Room (my favorite), and the State Dining Room. We also got to peek into the library, Vermeil Room, and China Room.

White House roses are beautiful!
The rooms have such beautiful curtains and furniture. Also, the chandeliers in the hallways were sparkling and perfect!

A photo of the guns for Boyfriend.

Woohoo! The lawn (and me, below) behind the fence!

We walked past the Treasury Department on the way to and from the metro. Another beautiful building. I would have killed to have Frank (my D-SLR) with me. Oh well, another time.

This women made me really happy on the metro. Sunflowers always remind of my mom (hi mom!).
Outfit post to come.

countdown: 6

Saturday at the Botanical Gardens with Boyfriend. It took us all summer to get here and it was worth it! Despite getting lost, 90* weather, and near-starvation, we had tons of fun! I was most excited about a section of the conservatory where you could smell plants from all over the world. French vanilla, cinnamon, yum!

I love this plant name. It would be the most delectable lipstick color.

Om nom!
