(skirt: from the DC Swapaholics swap over the summer; blouse: ann taylor; socks: we love colors; boots: so old-probably dsw or off broadway; christmas lights: santa's workshop)

We put the Christmas lights on our tree tonight. Before we wrapped the second string around the top half I just had to play with them. I didn't get home from work till after dark and I really wanted a photo of this outfit. Structurally it's very unconventional but I just love the colors. The wine-colored skirt and socks with the navy blue blouse made me happy all day. I also enjoyed the silk on top and bottom.

Inspiration: Anastasia

Yesterday, while waiting for Boyfriend to get off work, I went to Netflix to see what was available to watch immediatly. What should pop up on the home page? Disney's Anastasia. I love, love this movie and had to watch it! It wasn't until about a third of the way through that I realized there is some style inspiration to be found in the movie! Also, Anastasia is way darker than I remember.

Giant blue hairbow that matches the lovely, modest dress.

The perfect ankle boots!

I can't decide if I like Anastasia's pajamas more or the outfits she wears when she's under Rasputin's dream-trance.

Ah yes, a splendid example of Granny fashion!

Flounces!

They're in Paris! How can they be anything but fabulous!

I'll leave you with this cuteness:

& my favorite quote:
come my minions,
rise for your master

art is not life

So for the past two weeks I have had a dreadful cough. A hacking cough. A horrible hacking cough. For a while I tried to romanticize it. I kept thinking of Satine in Moulin Rouge who was dying of tuberculosis and was coughing throughout the movie. The movie is terribly romantic and, because she is falling in love and dying at the same time, the coughing is terrible romantic.

I have, however, come to the conclusing that coughing is not romantic.
And, if you have TB you will probably die.

inspiration: how to steal a million

I watched How to Steal A Million recently. The movie stars Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole. I won't give away the plot, except to saw it's delightful and you should watch it.
I want to talk about the costumes! The costume designer was Hubert de Givenchy.
Peter O'Toole was absolutely dashing in his suites but, for me at least, it was Audrey who stole the show. The top outfit is head to toe white, including sunglasses and a hat! In the movie Audrey is always wearing the most adorable little heels; they actually look like some I could comfortable walk in!

I couldn't find a could picture of the outfit she wore to commit a robbery (a robbery I tell you!) but it was white and crisp and lovely. I especially admired all her hats. I'm a new lover of hats myself, and in this movie there were some very interesting ones worn.

This black lace outfit (and mask) is the costume Audrey's character chose to don when she went to discuss the robbery for the first time. I saw costume because it was a costume even for the character. All black lace, black fishnets, little heels, and a mask! What a perfect outfit for discussing devious deeds in a hotel bar with a handsome thief.
A good movie with good costumes!

Any recommendations for me to watch?

wednesday's child is full of woe

I am a Wednesday child but I am full of glee; how can I not be with a mustache ring?

I thought by now I would have been to all my courses but my professor didn't show up for class this morning. Apparently she thought class started at 12 instead of 11. Oh well. I know I'm going to enjoy Creative Writing, Honors History: Slavery in the Atlantic, and History of the Gilded Age. I will just have to survive Math and Lifetime Fitness, both class are mandatory.

I'm still figuring out what I want to do with this blog but I've mostly decided to do whatever I want for the day! For awhile I was trying to limit myself to one post a day but I've decided that I want more freedom. Here's to un-stifled, random, happy creativity! Oh, there will still be lots of daily outfits--I thought of getting rid of them but it just makes me happy to dress up & share.

A bunch of us are going to see Avatar tonight. I've been told it will excite my already excited hippie-tendencies and that I will want to live in a tree. That is ok with me.
