After work this week, Ellie and I put scissors to paper and cut about a million paper snowflakes! We wanted to bring some Christmas cheer to our little box of a room. This morning, I hung them from the ceiling and then lay on the floor and just smiled. It really is the little things that make life so great.

Cardiff Castle

Ellie and I spent Saturday in Cardiff, Wales. After leaving our flat at 7 AM and catching an 8 AM bus we arrived in Cardiff around 11 AM. The first thing we did was locate and explore Cardiff Castle.

These photos are of the keep. It has existed since the 1000s and was used by the Normans.

I really enjoyed our visit and am glad to have found a fun traveling companion in my roommate, Ellie. I will post more photos of our afternoon, which was spent wandering the streets of Cardiff, tomorrow. Today was a bad day. Nothing particularly terrible happened I've just been a bit blue all afternoon. I'm going to do some homework, drink tea, work out, and work on super secret craft projects (involving bits of felt and scissors). I think crunches and creativity will put me in a better mood.

an alternative to overpriced thank you notes

This year, for the first time since I was a little girl, I wrote thank you notes for the Christmas presents I received. Instead of sending traditional cards purchased from Barnes and Noble or Hallmark I decided to make my own postcards. I printed out photos I'd taken and glued them to pieces of white poster board. I used sharpie to make the lines found on postcards.

I liked this a lot because it was easy and more personal then sending a generic card. I will be making postcards again; especially when I'm studying abroad in London this fall. I think it's far cooler to use the photos I've taken than to buy postcards from a street vendor. Next time I will use gorilla glue, I only had regular glue and it dried bumpy.

a bowl of petunias

This is one of my very first (completed) D.I.Y. projects and therefore there will be a post on it. I had so much fun making the costume!
How to Become a Bowl of Petunias:

Step 1: Cut out a large number of petunia like flowers. I used a very thin foam found at Michael's for under $1 a sheet.

Step 2: Glue the flowers to a shirt you never want to use again. I found that Gorilla Glue works wonders! Everything glued with G.G. stayed on all night; the flowers I glued with rubber cement (when the tiny bottle of G.G. ran out) fell off.

Step 3: Attatch stems to the shirt. I only put a few stems on each side; it gave the idea of flowers but was less complicated, and in my opinion more attractive.

Step 4: Accessorize! The headband was one of my favorite parts and with a few adjustments I may just wear it again.

Step 5: Add a tutu (hot topic) under a white skirt (thrifted), white knee high socks (target), and moccasins (U.O.) and you have yourself one comfy (& cute--if I may say so myself) bowl of petunias!

bat-tastic!

(jersey cape/wrap: banana republic-Thrifted; purple tunic: U.O.; black tank: converse-gift; leggings: forever 21?; boots: chinese laundry-DSW.)

Wednesday's outfit was all about comfort! Insomnia kicked in after work until 4 am and I slept nary a wink. Around 9:15 am I gave up and got up for the day. As I threw clothes on I knew I was looking for something easy to collapse in--remove the belt turning the almost-knee-length-tunic into a shorter, more manageable, tunic and I was ready for sleep! I did eventually get a two hour nap, and when I was awake I felt cute; even in leggings! I'm working tonight until 3 am and then hopefully I will be able to collapse.

A friend and I went to a halloween store today and I came back with goodies (not related to my costume at all) that I'm hoping to play around with in the upcoming weeks. My actual halloween costume is coming along well; I finally started it this evening.

home sweet home?

I'm home again. Time to start organizing my room.
Boyfriend and I uncovered the bed so I can sleep here.
[Which totally sucks; I miss my bedmate.]
The next few days will be spent cleaning this mess up.

I miss Richmond. I was relaxed. I caught a fish!

I played with fuzzies other than my own.

Mostly I got to hang out with this kid 24/7.
For one week we were not apart at all.
Now I will be going hours, and maybe days, without seeing him.
Poo.

p.s. I love this sunglasses or "windshields" as Boyfriend calls them.

Back Friday to start revamping my room.
Major DIY project. :D

Work starts on Monday. 9-6.
What a way to make a living.

dorm room pets

Today the balloon that has been in my room for months started to descend. Boyfriend and I decided he makes the perfect dorm room pet (no feedings, no poopings, no smells!)
He curls up nicely at the bottom of the bed.
He likes to peak over my shoulder as I blog/surf the interwebs/write papers (hah)
Sometimes he sinks lowlowlow
Sometimes he makes a last gasp to return to the ceiling-world-from-whense-he-came (aha I love these socks!)

Boyfriend (because he is so cute!) and Smoothie King. My first S.L. since high school.
I love clouds. I also love churches. One day I'll have to do a post of church pics.

Heart cloud; sign?

I've been obsessively reading fashion blogs and I have seen many kick-ass DIY projects. I started one, a shredded shirt, that I first saw on fashiontoast and learned how to do here.
Other ideas that I'll probably start over the summer:
- spine shirt (I do not care that it's from last year)
- a giant plasticish bag with grocery items painted on it, I saw a girl carrying one and I bet I can make my own!
- a skirt! that involves sewing! zomg.
